THIRD INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ADVANCED LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES

SCOPE

This Workshop will present the latest advances on multifunctional lightweight materials and structures, their manufacturing methods and their performance for functional and structural engineering applications. These materials are available as closed-cell and open-cell foams, hollow-sphere foams, syntactic foams, periodic and optimized truss structures and honeycombs. They can be used in numerous industrial applications, such as lightweight structures, impact energy absorbers, biomedical devices and implants, filters, electrodes, catalysts and heat exchangers. Some of these examples will be shown in the Workshop, together with different visions on how these materials can (and will) be used in the engineering and medicine of the future. The Workshop will combine a series of lectures given by top researchers in the field, with years of hands-on experimental and/or numerical works.
