Biography

Mechanical Engineer (Lic.Eng., M.Sc., Ph.D.), academic and author of more than 80 publications with 20 in international peer-reviewed journals, more than 5 book chapters and 2 authored books. Main research fields are computational and applied mechanics, numerical analysis and simulation (FEA), computational mechanics, aluminium structural behaviour, eurocode 9, high-performance parallel computing (HPC),  Beowulf Cluster Computing, multiscale modelling, thermomechanical behaviour of composite materials, homogenisation procedures, engineering optimisation, topology optimisation, fatigue and fracture mechanics of aluminium alloys. Founding member of both the Light-Weight Armour for Defence & Security (LWAG) and the GRIDS research group at the University of Aveiro. Director of the GRIDS-DiFrACT – Division of Fracture & Advanced Computational Technics – until January 2016.
